Detoxify Your Body: Perfect Time

by Sarvesh Jhanwar

With our busy lives, we often tend to neglect our health to save time and money. Even though we all are familiar with the quote “Health is Wealth” and still we mostly choose Wealth over Health. And it is not our fault, our hectic lives have forced us to neglect the most important thing we have, our bodies. This directly results in our immune system getting weaker and our innate detox system is working day and night to get rid of toxins we consume on a daily basis.

Detoxification is about resting, cleansing and nourishing the body from inside out. It has been practiced for centuries by cultures around the world. It usually includes eliminating toxins, then feeding our body with healthy nutrients to maintain optimum health and regain immunity.

You will find a lot of articles claiming cleaning your diet will make you feel better and lighter, others claim there is no proof that detox diets really work. So, I decided to check it myself. Luckily though, with this quarantine, it was a gift of time to focus on our lives and bodies, inside out.  All I had in mind was that eating healthy and cutting myself on sugar and solid fat will certainly do no harm.

So, I made a routine and precisely monitored it. Here are methods that can help you jumpstart your body’s natural detoxification routine.

Focus on Sleep

We hardly notice but getting adequate and quality sleep each night helps in supporting our body’s health and natural detoxification system.

Sleeping allows the brain to recharge and reorganise itself and flush out toxic waste accumulated all day.
Poor sleep results in stress, anxiety and even heart problems.

If you have difficulty sleeping at night, lifestyle changes like sticking to a sleep schedule and limiting blue light prior to bed are useful for improving sleep.

Start with Water

Water is not only to quench your thirst, but it also helps in the regulation of body temperature. It aids in digestion and nutrients absorption, and detoxifies by eliminating waste from the body.

Start Moving

Get your body into an active state, whether to be cardio or yoga. If you hate exercises, then try to make this into something you love doing. Keeping your body active enhances blood circulation and doing so will also enhance digestion and strengthen your body.

Stay Away from Sugar

Basically, cut your sugar intake. Try switching to healthier alternatives such as honey and stevia. Sugar can be quite addictive and if you suffer from sweet-tooth then it is going to be a huge task for you.

Eat Fruits and Vegetables

When it comes to diet there is no crazy detox strategy. Different types of fruits and veggies(organic if possible) should be the main focus of your diet, along with beans and legumes.
Prefer eating fruits that are rich in antioxidants and dark green vegetables as they are low on calories and are full of micronutrients.

Drink a lot of Tea

Tea is full of antioxidants and plays a major role in hydrating you(especially if it’s herbal). You can have any sort of tea you like whether be herbal, green or black. It has about 10 times more polyphenols found in fruits and vegetables and plays a major role in detoxification.

Benefits of Detoxification

  • Weight loss and management
  • Better Immune System
  • Gives you an energy boost
  • Cleaner skin and healthy hair
